Kristianstad sits inland in the north east of Skåne, in the low lying wetlands around the Helge å river. Much of the town centre lies below sea level and is kept dry by an embankment system, a detail that makes Kristianstad a useful example when thinking about weather related risk in this region.
Being away from the coast, Kristianstad tends to see bigger swings between day and night temperature than Malmö or Helsingborg, and its weather can be more changeable than the towns on the sound.
